Museum leadership refuses to recognize the PMA Union

For release: June 21, 2020

A supermajority of eligible workers asked museum leadership to voluntarily recognize the PMA Union when we filed our petition last month (view letter to director Timothy Rub). After weeks of delays, museum leadership has finally stated that they will not recognize our union, despite our demonstration of overwhelming support. Their rationale for declining to voluntarily recognize our union is, in a word, flummoxing: “it is not appropriate for us to make this decision for our employees. The choice should be [theirs].”

Our choice was already made clear in May, when a supermajority of eligible staff filed union authorization cards. We wanted a union then, we want a union now, and when the day arrives that double-speak has run dry, we will exercise our federally protected right to #VOTEYES for a #PMAUnion.

Candidly, as determined as we are to win, we must also express our sadness about this news. It is painful for many of us to have our voices ignored in our workplace. But we are looking forward to the days and weeks ahead, and we can’t wait to win our election!
